” Mage’s ” members of a once very secretive order.
An order of highly specializedmanipulators of the
elements of the World of Warcraft.
Honing their skills over the centuries Mage’s have
become the master’s of both fire and ice , able to
manipulate them at will to serve their needs.
They have learned not only how to create fire and ice
but how to mold and shape them to their desired outcome.
The Mage can concentrate cold into a refined offensive
and very destructive projectile known as a Frostbolt.

On the flip side they can also direct an intense sphere of
blazing fire known as a Fireball.
But a Mage is not just a person that can go around playing
with fire and throwing snowball’s , no far from it.
A Mage can perform what some might call small miracles,
creating food and water ,instantaneous transportation
from city to city which at higher levels allows your whole
party to teleport with the Mage just to name a few.

Besides elemental magic the Mage is able to actually
manipulate magic by decreasing its’ effectiveness or
increasing its’ effectiveness. Also basic transforming
of enemies into sheep for a short duration is not
exactly a challenge to a skilled Mage.
The mage, like a Priest or Warlock is limited to wearing
cloths only. At no point will a mage be able to wear any
kind of armor metal or even leather so you will want to
learn professions that will help neutralize this
disadvantage as much as possible.

The Tailoring profession is an excellent choice naturally.
Tailoring will not only allow you to make beneficial
clothing and items for yourself but will also provide you
with a good source of things to sell for gold.
Enchanting is normally the second profession taken up by a Mage.
Enchanting will allow you to greatly enhance the cloths and
other items that you will make. This will make them of more
use to you and your party and will increase there gold value
at auction.

As far as secondary skill’s I always recommend first aid no
matter what class you are playing. And as for a mage that is
all ready learning Tailoring and Enchanting the logical
secondary skill to learn would be skinning. And mining would
also come in handy.

I don’t usually talk about recommending certain races for the
various character classes in World of Warcraft but the Mage
is a bit of an exception. Humans are my first choice to be
played as a mage but I do not dismiss using a Draenei or a Gnome.
Overall the Mage is a fantastic character on its’ own
and is a absolutely essential character to any questing party.
You got to see what multiple Mage’s can do! WOW!

As I mentioned before, the Mage has no self healing abilities
on its own so the draenei race is certainly a good one for the
Mage as you will have Gift of the Naaru to use for healing.
Along the same lines as the draenei the troll race is helpful
with its regeneration ability, though not quite as effective as
the Gift of the Naaru.
The blood elf is by itself a very powerful race with Arcane
Torrent, and Arcane Affinity. The blood elf complements the
Mage class very nicely.

The gnome makes a good Mage with its Expansive Mind to replenish
mana and Escape Artist is very useful in getting out of sticky
situations.
The diplomacy of the human race is good for reputations in the
future and Human Spirit helps to reduce downtime, although their
Sword and Mace specialization is not of much use to a wand carrying Mage.
The forsaken has some benefits against priests and warlocks but little
else. A forsaken Mage is probably the most challenging to play.

With limited defenses and lack of leather or metal armor, solo play
can be a struggle for the Mage especially at the earlier levels.
From the beginning I recommend playing a Mage with a group until
you develop some powerful spells to help you with defense.
Fortunately the Mage has some awesome DPS and DOT spells to make
soloing easier. Play defensively and keep your distance, don’t try
to be a hero. Retreat and heal yourself frequently. Develop a
routine of charging in, doing some damage and then pulling back.
With time you will get comfortable playing solo or with a group.
